Indiana DNR welcomes 24 new conservation officers

Two dozen new conservation officers officially joined the Indiana DNR Division of Law Enforcement during graduation ceremonies Friday at the State Capitol.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller administered the oath of office to the recruits, who will fill positions in various locations around the state.

New Public Bank Access Area On Cumberland River For Trout Anglers

Anglers floating the Cumberland River below Wolf Creek Dam now have a new public access site to stop and wade or fish from the bank. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources recently purchased a 20-acre island and adjacent 5-acre parcel of land in Clinton County. The island is shown on some maps as Long Bar and known locally as Snow Island.

The 2009 Illinois fall trout fishing season opens on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 37 ponds and lakes throughout the state, Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Director Marc Miller announced today.

This week on the Ohio River NOAA has predicted water levels to be steady around 13' all week from Cannelton all the way down to Smithland Dam.

However, I would suggest before going out to check the stages for change due to the forecasted rain all week.

Ohio River Fishing Report August 30, 2009

Right now on the Ohio River the National Weather Service has forecast Cannelton Dam to be steady for the next 3 days. Newburgh Dam is at 13.6 ft. and is expected to rise .3 ft. by Tues Sept. 1st and then fall to 13.0 ft. by Sat. Sept. 5th. J.T. Myers Dam is expected to hold steady for the next 6 days.

Ohio River Fishing Report August 6, 2009

We sure have been pounded by rain here lately on the Ohio River with nearly a foot falling up river from our location in Henderson/Evansville.

With that said here are the latest predictions from NOAA starting today. At Cannelton dam on the lower gauge below the dam 24.45' of water was observed with a projection of 19' by this Sat Aug 9th. At Newburgh dam 26.7' was observed with that higher prediction being influenced heavily by

39 Pound Channel Catfish Would Have Been IN and KY State Record

On July 18th at 8:30 pm, Rick Lewis and his son Shane Lewis of Connersville, IN, were fishing the Tanner's Creek area of the Ohio River by Lawrenceburg, IN, near the tripoint of Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

"We were trolling at about 2.5 miles an hour when this fish was caught by Dad on about a 10” chunk of quillback sucker," Shane said, "fishing in 50-60’ of water on the main river channel."
